Ewura Adwoa dragged her dejected self from the bench, picked her bag, tried to put her broken self together and walked out of the bush to the campus. On the campus, she pretended to be fine outwardly but was dying within. She rushed to Akuffo house. She entered the dorm, changed into her check and went to take a shower. She went back to the dorm to observe siesta.
Lying on the bed, she wept bitterly and for the first time in many weeks, her parent's advise flooded her memory. She cursed herself for being naive and given a deaf ear to advise. How did i tripped? So all these while, Ebenezer never loved me? Why didn't I listened to Hajj and Lilly? Why didn't I accept who I really am instead of following material stuff? What do I do to save myself now? She asked herself so many questions in her mind without answers. At that moment, she wished sleep would take her to dreamland but that never happened. She kept blaming and cursing herself for not paying attention to advise of her parent and friends. Her tears flowed freely.
The days that followed were hard for Ewura Adwoa in the school most especially in class since she was in the same class with Ebenezer. The young man went about the class as if he was perfect. The more Ewura Adwoa saw him, the more hatred she felt for him. The love she felt for him turned into hatred, anger and enmity due to what he and his friends had turned her into. They demanded for sex anytime they felt like and that was killing her softly. She felt there was nothing to be done to save herself. It's a cross she had to carry until they finally complete or she quit the school which was never going to happen because her parent won't be able to afford another school. Things were out of hands. So she thought. Her academics were affected because of the ordeal she was being put through by the three young men. An idea of suicide flashed into her mind. She realised it was the only solution to her problems.
Two days to their end of term exams, Ewura Adwoa was in class early in the morning when a form two student entered her class to speak to the teacher that was having a lesson with them. The teacher called Ewura Adwoa's name and asked her to go to his table. The messenger told her the headmaster sent for her. Ewura Adwoa trembled within. She felt those three stupid guys had finally sent the video out and it had gotten to the headmaster. She followed the senior to the headmaster's office. She was ready to open up to the headmaster and plead with him to punish her but allow her to continue her education. She prayed the headmaster wouldn't involve her parent. They would be very disappointed in her.
At the office, there was a very fine looking middle aged man sitting in the office with the headmaster. The man was about six feet tall, chocolate in complexion and was neatly dressed. The spray on his body could tell he was very wealthy. Ewura Adwoa's hands shook when she saw the unknown man. How could the headmaster do such a thing? Is he saying the teachers in the school are not competent enough to handle this issue and he has invited a police officer? Instantly she felt hatred for the headmaster. The headmaster ordered her to take a seat. She did still trembling. The headmaster had his eyes fixed on his computer screen so didn't really notice her fears. The senior that sent her to the office went out when the headmaster said thank you to him. The visitor was busy with his phone. For five minutes, nobody said anything to anyone. Ewura Adwoa died slowly of fear, suspense and anxiety.
Another senior entered the office with Nana Ama following. The headmaster as usual showed appreciation to the senior and she exited from the office. Ewura Adwoa remembered one of the headmaster's speech which had to do with saying 'thank you'. During the speech, he stressed on the need to show appreciation to people when they do something or a service for us. "Even if it's very small, you have to let the person know you appreciate his or her effort to make your life simple and better that very moment" Ewura Adwoa recalled his words.
The presence of Nana Ama in the office calmed Ewura Adwoa's nerves because Nana Ama though knew about her relationship with Ebenezer wasn't aware of what was going on. The headmaster removed her lens and placed it in its case. He ordered Nana Ama to sit down. The visitor stared at the two students in the office. The headmaster focused his attention on the ladies
"Ewura Adwoa and Nana Ama, I apologize for disrupting your studies. How are you girls doing in your departments?" the headmaster tried to create an atmosphere of friendship to calm the nerves of the two ladies after he realised their uneasiness.
"not bad at the business department sir" Nana Ama answered calmly
"Sir please the science department is not bad either" Ewura Adwoa also replied. Her confidence was boosted.
"good to know. I am sure you are wondering why you are here. This gentleman here was sent to this school by his business partner to make an enquiry for him. According to him, you called his business partner to find out something from him but due to his busy schedules, he wasn't able to make it himself that is why he has sent this gentleman to do the enquiries for him. Is there something I don't know?" the headmaster stared at the ladies.
"I am very sorry for not involving any of the teachers. I thought it was more of a family issue so I didn't want to disturb you or any of the teachers. More so, I didn't want my auntie to know I was up to something..." Nana Ama disclosed.
"oh I see. Anyway what is the problem about?" The headmaster inquired though the visitor had briefed him.
Nana Ama took her time to explain everything to the headmaster. How she was maltreated by her auntie and how she prevents her from communicating with people in the community. She disclosed everything to the point where Ewura Adwoa suggested she copied some numbers from her auntie's phone to call and find out who her real parents were. Ewura Adwoa was made to say what she knew and her involvement in the issue.
From the narration, the headmaster realized Nana Ama's auntie was trying to cancel something from the young lady. He was amazed at the depth of Ewura Adwoa's knowledge and wisdom but didn't let her know. He gave the visitor the opportunity to ask Nana Ama some questions. The visitor asked the young lady a few questions and she answered without blinking. She felt something good would come out of what had started. When the visitor was done, he gave two envelopes to the headmaster to be given to Nana Ama and Ewura Adwoa.
"Mr Quarshie is out of the country at the moment. I will call and give him the information. I will come here with him immediately he touch down in the country" the visitor said and shook hands with the headmaster. He had wanted to take photos of Nana Ama and Ewura Adwoa but the headmaster prevented him from doing so. He left with a promise of coming back with the man that sent him.
The headmaster stared at the two ladies for sometime without uttering a word. He handed to them the envelopes and advised them to have confidence in the teachers.
"try and involve the teachers when you are facing any difficulties in life. We are here to assist you. Not only in your academics but spiritually, emotionally and physically. No matter how terrible a problem is, try and confide in a teacher. In so doing, you may save yourself and the people involved" he advised.
The ladies apologized for doing things their own way. At that moment, Ewura Adwoa felt the urge to inform the headmaster the mess she had putting herself into she declined on a second thought. The headmaster ordered them to go back to their respective departments. Outside the office, Nana Ama showed appreciation to Ewura Adwoa for assisting her in solving her problem. She promised to give her a beautiful surprise when the her real parents finally emerges. They departed to their various departments.
